Hello Stranger
“Artistic Nonfiction” is a method of using familiar touch points to quickly design and build a composite character and deeper alter ego backstory
It wasn’t the low light, wig, or fake eyelashes. It wasn’t the new outfit either. All of that helped but what made me doubt that I was currently speaking with my wife was the well developed storyline and resolute refusal to break character. It was her backstory, not an accent.
We’re about to help you build a character, rooted in a story, using a method we call ‘Artistic Nonfiction’ to help you go deep, fast. The idea is to have a character that is so well developed, you know the answers to questions before they’ve ever been asked. Don’t worry, this is low-stakes and a lot of fun (hopefully).
An alter ego can help you:
express new ideas (think Mark Twain)
explore spaces and the world (think spies)
navigate situations in new ways (think ww(x)d)
reveal a new side of you (think burlesque)
experiment in your relationships (think fantasy)
You can use this character as one of many alter egos. Or just use this process as a creative exercise.
